2008 High Sierra 250 Dual Sport Ride
August 23 & 24
2008 brought a new and improved look to the High Sierra Dual Sport ride. With
a year off, creators Tim and Darlene went back to the drawing board and designed a more even keeled ride for 2008. There were
no major injuries or bike break downs reported. Despite a few flat tires and some bike trouble on Saturday, all 21 riders
completed the two days and 250 miles of the route.
On
Saturday we started from the Elkins Flat staging area in the Eldorado National Forest and ended at Topaz Lake. Saturday’s
routes consisted of tight single track through the woods and dust, followed by the Mud Lake trail, down the Plassies trail
to Silver Lake. We had lunch at Kirkwood and then rode to the Deer Valley trail and finally to the Bryant
Creek trail.
Sunday’s route left Topaz Lake and winded its
way to Capels Lake for our first remote lunch. We then road the Strawberry Jump trail over to Highway 50 for fuel and then
made our way back to Elkins Flat. Sunday’s easier route was much appreciated by all the riders, even our A-level riders.
We want to thank everyone for riding this year. We
give a special thanks to John Croce and Grieg Fambrini for driving the luggage truck and chase truck. Without John and Grieg,
we would have starved. Thanks to the Lampman’s for their food service, trail design, and flat tire repair. Also, thanks
to the Odell’s for their service in fixing my flats and keeping my bike from getting torn up.
Thank you all and we will see you next year for the 2009 High Sierra Dual Sport Ride.
Tim & Darlene and RUTS North.
