Honey
Lake Hare Scramble
September 13-14
Although the weather was a little hot and dusty
during the afternoon sun, the Honey Lake Hare Scramble brought out about 400 racers and 500 spectators.
It was a great time to catch up with old friends and make new friends as a new couple joined RUTS while at the event.
The watered track was rough and physically demanding, especially for the later races.
Before each of the nine event races, Fred Sumrall
prayed for the riders and their safety. One rider broke his femur and was airlifted to the hospital.
Fred had the opportunity to pray for the injured rider before the helicopter took off. The event
promoter thanked Fred for RUTS serving as a witness for Christ during the weekend.
Chaplain Service
About 20 people attended the
Saturday evening service. Chaplain Fred Sumrall spoke from Acts 16 which records how Paul and Silas were
severely flogged and put in prison for casting a demon out of a slave girl. The prison guard was astonished
that Paul and Silas did not escape when they had the chance. If Paul and Silas had escaped, the prison
guard would have been punished with death. Believing that they were from God, the prison guard brought
them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” Paul and Silas replied, “Believe
in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”
When Chaplain Fred asked if anyone
wanted to dedicate their life to Christ, a few people raised their hands. Fred felt the event was a successful
ministry occasion.
